Where were you when she blew us away with that god given brilliant voice of hers. I recently had Aidan listen and watch this video. It is truly one of my favorite performances of hers. I remember what was going on in our world around this time. I remember the controversy about letting an African American perform this anthem at this particular time. They did not want her to....... I don't know how to put this really. They didn't want her to mess up the anthem. "Don't sing it too black". Do you remember that? This was also around the time that the Rodney King incident was all over the news......and then she made us all stand still for just one moment.
I always said it was so unfair that not only was she physically beautiful, she was incredibly talented. It should be one or the other. You only get one. But having both wasn't enough to keep her safe from herself. So sad that she could stay here and find balance in her life. Rest now sister.
